Future Projects

Dear SWYers…

Many of you may have found a new world you can step into after the SWY program. Some of you may be still looking for.

Some of you shipped off to see another world to gain more experiences; some started to take a new job that you had never dreamt before.

Some gained power to pursue a dream, and some started a new project. No matter which direction you may go, there is a place to meet… a place to share… a place to stimulate each other… and here is the one for you.

swyworld.net serves you as a gateway to share your interest, creativity, skills and care to the world.

You can express yourself with writing, music, photo exhibition, etc. and show your “SWY world”.

Depart from swyworld.net and come back with new senses, ideas, and discoveries.

Connect with people at swyworld.net; connect yourselves with the world!

Slow down from everyday life pace, have a coffee with friends, listen, contribute your thinking, share, learn and find solutions to problems...

The aim of this project is to share the experience of SWY with local youth, empower the SWYAA, share information and experiences as well as raising awareness on various issues.

The Peace Café meetings will also be open to web visitors and every session will be recorded to provide an electronic database with issues covered in different parts of the world.

The first Peace Cafe took place in Athens in April 2010. Please read here more information.

SWY Greek alumni members approved and put into practice the Homestay + 1 project where it is advisable for ex-pys when visiting a country to take part in local events and/to contribute to society (i.e. visiting a school, etc.).

Since 2001 SWY Greece had the honor to host people from more than 25 countries in the world. Participants and friends not only from SWY program but also from the sister SSEAYAP program.

Nowadays, after the first official meeting upon the return of SWY22 delegation with the new General Secretary of the General Secretariat for Youth, new Homestay +1 projects come into practice with joint projects between our alumni association and the GSFY as well as the Scouts of Greece.

In the past, several Homestay + 1 projects have been organised:
- Asia on the spotlight
- Santa Barbara meets Japan
- Taro % Yasuhi (SWY22) visiting the 3rd Boy Scouts Troop of Kifissia

More will be soon organized... Stay tuned!

The aim is the formation of a practical manual with useful instructions (advice) for one’s everyday life.

This manual will include advice for energy saving (i.e. turning off electrical equipment when not in use, unplugging chargers, using energy efficient light bulbs).
The manual will explain the usefulness of recycling and reduce of the amount of rubbish in landfills, composting, etc; it will raise awareness on the different types of recycling materials and ways of recycling.

Sustainable use of natural resources (sustainable use of water) the manual will include examples (i.e if 1000 people reduced their shower time by 10 seconds each 40 tones of water would be saved per week).

There will be 4 phases for this project:
1. Implementation of the instructions of the manual by all members of SWYAA GREECE
2. Each member of SWY Greece will try to convince five families from their respective social circle to follow the instructions of the manual.
3. Establishment of a NETWORK that will succeed in spreading the use and the implementation of the manual within their social network, creation of a website, spread the word in broader social networks, as well as establishing an award giving to the families that implement effectively the instructions of the manual.
Last but not least, once the GREEN MANUAL is used effectively by a large number of Greek households we will try to spread it to all countries within the SWY Network.

SWY Greece is currently involved in the development of a “New Global Photo Contest” which is an ongoing long term project based on the objectives of previous contest but in a more accessible and refined way. Its goal is to encourage participation of the SWYAA and the SSEAYAP by providing an add-on tool for international understanding and aims in three primary outcomes:

1. Photo Book
The ultimate aim of the GPC project is to produce content that can be printed in a book with articles written by participating youth. The book will be mainly for commercial release with a pre arranged profit percentage to return to the organizers and various charities.

2. GPC Website
To create a well established website the can act as a portal for all competitions and also host the winning photos and content about the project, associated programs, organizers and sponsors.

3. Exhibitions
To host at least one exhibition during one of the major events of the SWY or SSEYAP programs and/or present winning photos to a well known global photography exhibition and/or galleries worldwide.
